Every year, the same thing happens. In October, people start asking us about Diwali trips. In November, the calls start about Christmas and New Year. And by the first week of December, we have to tell many families, “Sorry, those dates are full.”
If you want to spend Christmas or New Year in the Rann of Kutch this season, this guide is for you. We will tell you honestly what it costs, why these dates fill up so fast, what the evenings look like, and when you should book. Short answer on the last one: now is a good time.
Why late December sells out first
Three things happen at the same time in the last week of December.
Schools are closed. Most schools in India have winter holidays around Christmas. For many families, this is the only week in winter when the whole family can travel together.
Offices slow down. Many people take leave between Christmas and New Year. This year it is even easier, because both 25th December and 1st January fall on a Friday. That means two long weekends, back to back.
The weather is perfect. In December, days in Kutch are sunny and pleasant, and nights are cold. You need a jacket after sunset, and that is part of the fun.
Add the full moon (more on this below), and you can see why the camp is full. The White Rann has only so many tents. When thousands of families want the same 10 days, those tents go quickly.
Is there a full moon near Christmas 2026?
Yes, and this year it is a special one.
The full moon of December 2026 comes on the night of 23rd–24th December, just before Christmas. It is also a supermoon, which means the moon is closer to Earth and looks bigger and brighter than usual. In fact, it is the biggest full moon of the whole year.
On a full moon night, the White Rann looks like a sheet of silver. The white salt reflects the moonlight, and you cannot tell where the ground ends and the sky begins. This is the view most people come to Kutch for.
So if you can plan your stay for 23rd, 24th or 25th December, you get Christmas and the full moon together. The moon will still look almost full on Christmas night, rising a little later in the evening.
What about New Year’s Eve? On 31st December, the moon is only half, and it rises late, around midnight. So the early part of the night is dark. That is actually nice in its own way. With no city lights for kilometres, the sky is full of stars. You will see more stars here than you have seen in years.

Which date tier applies: Regular or Premium?
At The White Salt Tent City by Adhvanta, every night of the season falls in one of three tiers:
- Premium dates: full moon nights and the peak holiday block
- Regular dates: most of the season
- Economy dates: the quieter days at the start of November and in February
The late-December holiday block, including Christmas and New Year, is Premium. A few days just before or after the holiday week may be Regular. If your dates are flexible, check the date calendar on our Rann Utsav page before you finalise. Moving your trip by even two or three days can save you a few thousand rupees.
Prices for Christmas and New Year 2026–27
All prices are per couple and include your tent, all meals in the itinerary, sightseeing, entry tickets for the listed places, evening cultural programme, and AC transfer from Bhuj Railway Station. GST of 18% is extra.

Extra person in the same tent: ₹4,500 per night (Deluxe) or ₹5,000 per night (Premium) on these dates.
Children below 6 stay free, without a separate bed or seat.
A simple family example: Husband, wife and one child of 8 years, Deluxe tent, 2 nights on Premium dates. That is ₹36,000 + ₹9,000 for the child = ₹45,000, plus GST = ₹53,100 in total.

Which tent should you pick?
Deluxe AC tent is enough for most couples and small families. It has AC, an attached bathroom, wooden flooring and a small sit-out in front.
Premium AC tent is bigger, with a separate living area and a king bed. If you are travelling with parents, or you simply want more space for a special occasion like an anniversary on New Year, the extra ₹2,000 a night is worth it.
What the evenings look like
The best part of staying overnight is the evening. Here is a normal day at the camp:
- You check in around 12:30 pm and have lunch.
- Rest in your tent in the afternoon.
- Evening tea at 4 pm.
- At 5 pm, we take you to the White Rann for sunset. Watch the sky turn orange and pink over the white salt.
- Come back for dinner, followed by a live cultural programme. Kutchi folk music, Garba and Dandiya, Bhavai theatre, puppet shows and craft demonstrations.
On the 2-night package, you also wake up early for sunrise on the salt, then visit the Road to Heaven, the old Harappan city of Dholavira, and Gandhi nu Gaam.
On Christmas and New Year, the camp is full and the mood is festive. Families, groups of friends and couples are all out on the salt together. Please ask our team when you book about any special plans for 25th and 31st December night.
One tip: It gets really cold in the Rann after sunset in late December. Pack a proper jacket, a cap and warm socks. Many guests come with only a light sweater and regret it.
When should you book?
For Christmas, New Year and full moon nights, we suggest booking 8 to 10 weeks ahead.
Count back from 24th December, and you land in mid-October. So if you are reading this in September or early October, you are right on time. If you wait until November, you may still find a tent, but your choice of category and dates will be much smaller.
Our booking tips:
- Decide your dates first. Christmas + full moon (23–25 Dec) or New Year (30 Dec–1 Jan)? Both are good, but they are different experiences.
- Choose 2 nights if you can. With one night, you get one evening and leave next morning. With two, you get sunrise, Dholavira, and a slower trip.
- Book your train or flight to Bhuj early too. Trains and flights to Bhuj also fill up in the holidays. Our transfer leaves Bhuj Railway Station at 10:00 am.
- Read the cancellation policy. Cancelling more than 15 days before check-in costs 15% of the booking amount. Within 15 days it is 25%, within 10 days 50%, and within 7 days 100%.
How to reach Dhordo
Dhordo has no railway station or airport of its own. Everyone comes by road from Bhuj, which is about 85 km away.
- By train: Come to Bhuj Railway Station. Our AC transfer is included in the package.
- By air: Bhuj Airport has daily flights from Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
- By road: From Ahmedabad, it is about 400 km, around 7 to 8 hours by car.
