Bhuj has its own airport and railway station, so most travellers from across India land or arrive here before heading to the festival. The Tent City at Dhordo is 85 km away, around 1.5 hours by road. Compared with travelling from Ahmedabad, starting from Bhuj saves 4 to 5 hours each way. If you are flying in specifically for the festival, a Bhuj-based package is the most practical and affordable option.

The Bhuj to Rann Utsav distance is approximately 85 km by road. The route runs from Bhuj through Bhirandiara and on to Dhordo village, where the Tent City sits. The drive is smooth and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes under normal conditions. We provide AC vehicles for all Bhuj transfers — private SUVs for groups of four or more, and scheduled shared transfers for smaller bookings.
Tent City accommodation options
The Rann Utsav Tent City is operated by Gujarat Tourism at Dhordo and runs from November to February. Swiss tents are the base option — spacious, with attached bathrooms, suited to a moderate budget. AC Swiss tents offer the same layout with air conditioning. AC cottages are the premium option, fully furnished with double beds, better lighting and more comfortable interiors — our recommendation for families, older travellers and anyone visiting during the December cold.
Best time to visit, and when to book
Rann Utsav typically runs from the first week of November to the last week of February — around 100 nights, but not all dates are equal. Full moon nights, locally Purnima, are the most spectacular: the The White Salt reflects moonlight in a way that is unlike anything else in India. Those nights have the highest demand and often sell out a month in advance.
